6 Journal Prompts To Help You Become The Woman You Want To Be
The following journal prompts are from my upcoming book, Write Your Life. Use them any time you need to be alone with the page and work through something specific, or as prompts for your Morning Pages.
1. IMAGINE THE WOMAN YOU WANT TO BE…
Take a few minutes to relax. Drop your shoulders. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Now imagine yourself living your ideal life. Who are you being? What are you wearing? How does your presence feel when you walk into a room? What are you directing your creative energy into? How are you using your gifts to further God’s Kingdom?
2. WHAT DO YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO STOP DOING TO BE THE WOMAN YOU WANT TO BE?
Complaining, making excuses, binge eating, saying yes when you want to say no, gossiping, dieting, dating the wrong person– write a list of everything your ideal self no longer does.
3. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING ‘YES’ TO, THAT SO BY DOING, YOU’RE SAYING ‘NO’ TO SOMETHING ELSE?
Anytime we say yes to something, it means we’re saying no to something else. So, where do you need to start saying no in order to redirect your yes to other things? If you’ve been saying yes to things that are worthwhile, the key is to recognize that moment when you wish you could be doing something else. If you’re already feeling resentful toward a person or a situation, that’s a clear indicator that you’ve pushed yourself further than you wanted to go.
4. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN SACRIFICING WHO YOU REALLY ARE?
In other words, what’s keeping you from living that vision of your ideal life? What’s keeping you from being who you really are? Where have you given your energy instead?
5. HOW ARE YOU FEELING CALLED TO EXPAND PAST YOUR CURRENT CONTAINER?
If you’ve ever had to repot a plant that’s gotten too big for its pot, you’ve seen how the roots have gotten so long that they’re now all bunched together. Think of yourself in the same way. We’re designed to grow, expand, and stretch out like plants, but the same thing happens to us if we don’t. We feel tight and cramped. Because a limit has been placed on our self-expression. We might even shrivel up. We might even start to die. So, what’s feeling too small? What spaces are preventing growth in your life? Think about your home, your work, your circle of friends. Explore what comes up.
6. IF YOU WERE ALREADY WHO YOU DESIRE TO BE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING? HOW WOULD YOUR ENERGY BE DIFFERENT?
Imagine this woman you want to be as your natural state of being. It’s now completely normal for you to book the trip, plan the adventure, take a month off, write poetry, play music, paint, say no to everything you don’t want to do, and say yes to what you do–all while feeling completely at peace with who God made you to be.
